This collection is inspired by our popular native fruits and the legends behind them.
Banana Earrings
The Story:
The legend of the banana is a tale of forbidden love. Young Juana fell in love with Aging despite her parents forbidding her from consorting with men. Upon finding Aging in their home, Juana's father slashed at him with his bolo and severed his arm. Juana later buried the arm, and on its grave a curious hand-shaped fruit grew.
The Fruits of the Philippines is a collection of popular Filipino fruits, including mango, guava, makopa, and more! Each little fruit is inspired by traditional folktales about each fruit’s origin. Read them here.
Each piece is handwoven by yours truly using tiny glass beads. It took me nearly 6 months to perfect each fruit, as I really wanted to get the proportions of our native fruits just right. This collection is a labor of love, and my way of sharing Filipino stories with the world.
