Siling Labuyo Earrings
The Story:
The legend of the chili tells the tale of a fiery prince. Prince Siling was the son of benevolent and much-beloved monarchs, who died at sea. Once he came into rule, Prince Siling's true colors shown, making him out to be a cruel and ill-tempered ruler. Suddenly one day the prince disappeared, and in his place a new plant grew. It's fruit was as red and fiery as the lost prince.
The Fruits of the Philippines is a collection of popular Filipino fruits, including mango, guava, makopa, and more! Each little fruit is inspired by traditional folktales about each fruit’s origin. Read them here.
Each piece is handwoven by yours truly using tiny glass beads. It took me nearly 6 months to perfect each fruit, as I really wanted to get the proportions of our native fruits just right. This collection is a labor of love, and my way of sharing Filipino stories with the world.
